OpenAI introduced a Data Agent for ChatGPT Work on September 10, 2026. The agent connects to approved enterprise data sources, investigates changes and produces answers and interactive dashboards. OpenAI lists systems including Redshift, BigQuery, Databricks, Snowflake and MongoDB, with files and documents from services such as Google Drive or SharePoint also usable in analysis.
The enterprise context is important. OpenAI says the Data Agent can use semantic layers, metric definitions, custom calculations and data relationships while respecting the permissions of the connected account, including table-, row- and column-level access. Administrators can control which data connections and roles are available.
The agent is not limited to analysis. Results can be shared through connected tools such as Slack or email, and approved follow-up actions can be executed. That link between analysis and action is the main structural change for the ChatGPT Work profile.
