Google introduces Gemini Agent for work
Gemini Agent combines planning, tools, Workspace and enterprise controls. Announcement does not prove general availability.
On October 8 Google Cloud announced Gemini Agent as a unified work agent. Google says the system can plan tasks, use tools and work across enterprise applications; release and controls must be verified by deployment.
Google Cloud announced a new Gemini Agent at Gemini at Work 2026. Google describes a unified work interface that covers research, knowledge work, media generation and coding. Instead of simply returning model output, the agent receives objectives, plans steps, invokes skills and connected tools, and is intended to deliver completed work.
The company explicitly separates the agent from the underlying models. Google says different models may be selected for different tasks. This matters for procurement: model choice, agent runtime, permissions and auditability are separate concepts. Support for a model does not establish identical processing terms for every linked application.
Google describes both personal assignments and persistent roles within teams. Its coworker-agent concept includes dedicated identities, persistent context and work that can continue across sessions. These are vendor descriptions of the announced architecture. Availability by region, plan and administrative setting needs to be checked in the specific deployment.
The announcement also discusses enterprise authorization, policy controls, network gateways and sandboxing. It does not independently verify every AgentenTrust control for every agent or Workspace surface. AgentenCode therefore links capabilities only when the relevant product-level and execution-scope evidence exists.
The important distinction is between Gemini Agent, the earlier Gemini Spark offering, Gemini models and Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. They sit at different layers and should not be presented as one interchangeable product. The Gemini Agent profile records product evidence and remaining unknowns separately.
